Are You Thinking Spring?

For Many Of Us, Spring Is On The Way

I’ve been thinking of Easter and have already given you some crafts to do.

I do love winter and all the fun things associated with special holidays . . . but spring has Easter and some fun activities to do. It is nice to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.

When I was growing up, I loved playing croquet.

It was fun for the whole family and to play with the neighborhood kids. I would sometimes set it up and play by myself. Before long someone would come and ask to play. I know it isn’t usually a solo game, but it works when you want to practice.

This is a quality set that will last for years. It’s from Crown Sporting Goods and is a set for 6 players. It comes with:

  • 2 21 inch hardwood stakes
  • 9 vinyl-coated wickets
  • 6 polymer balls
  • 6 32 inch hardwood mallets with rubber caps
  • A black zip-up carrying case for storage and easy transport

This is great to play at home or on a picnic or at the park. It’s family fun in the sun. I do like this set.

Here are some other games you may find fun to play:

Bocce Ball, Horseshoes and Ring Toss are all best sellers for outdoor sports. Having these games, plus croquet set up will make a fun day of activities for your next backyard bar-be-que.

This truly makes spring wonderful . . . getting a head start on firing up the BBQ.

I do hope this review was helpful and gave you some ideas to share with sunshine with family and friends.

Scarecrows For Now And Later

HalloweenScarecrows1

Too often scarecrows are associated with Halloween, but there are plenty of gardens and fields that have a scarecrow displayed to keep the crows from feasting on the crops. I do love scarecrows. They could be compared to the winter snowman, that I also adore. It’s all about how to dress them up. And what to use to create the image you want.

This happy pair of scarecrows could be made to last throughout the years. As you can see from the image Mrs. Scarecrow has a lovely pedestal base with a nice leafy trim on her sweater. I absolutely love her pearls, but I would go with a papier-mache pumpkin head and may begin with a straw hat and change it out as the season changes. I could also get into having a nice hat with feathers to give it some zing . . . and a feather boa may work nicely for the trim on her blouse or sweater. I’m also thinking of making her into a 20’s flapper . . . which would bring a more fun and somewhat whimsical flavor to your garden — a delightful display for a summer celebration.

As for Mr. Scarecrow, I’d find a bushel basket for his body and also add a papier-mache pumpkin head. I absolutely adore his sports coat and hat. His attire could be altered to fit in the season or the formality of your vegetable or flower garden.

Initially, I thought of Laurel and Hardy when I glanced at this pair of happy scarecrows.

This is a spring project that will “grow” with me throughout the summer and fall. Then to be replaced with snowmen that could be equally fun and delightful to dress up until we return to spring. I just love it when home and yard decor can be fun and last for quite a few seasons. This jolly pair would also be welcome for Thanksgiving.

I know you’re thinking!! I can feel the excitement of getting started on your happy pair of scarecrows.

Diva’s New Hair Ribbon

DSCN0021_edited-1

Lil Diva got some new hair ribbons. I know I don’t have the knack of putting them in her hair, but she knew she looked pretty and sat in front of the mirror admiring herself. I thought as long as she was sitting still, it was time for some pictures . . . well, here she is with her pink bow with a pink lady bug in the center. The bow is from http://bowbizdogbows.com

We bought an assortment of bows to take us through all the holidays. We have bows for spring and summer, a pumpkin for Halloween and some nice red ones for Christmas — oops! I forgot Thanksgiving, but the cute pumpkin may have to do double duty. Maybe Diva would like a turkey.

For spring and summer we have a blue bow with a plastic bow in the center, here’s the lady bug, there’s a butterfly, two black and pink ones with rhinestones when Diva is feeling especially festive, sunglasses for summer and a patriotic one with a silver star for the 4th of July, but Diva may like it for Memorial Day. Diva was having a difficult time deciding between the sunglasses or the lady bug. She finally decided then we went through the task of getting it in her top knot. She was so very patient with me. She made some adjustments.

DSCN0024_edited-1Hopefully, the next pictures will have better top knots and you’ll be able to see the bows better. Or I should just take a close up of her head — but I love all of her and want all of her to show in the picture.

No Bake Chocolate Bird Nest Cookies Recipe

NoBakeChocolateNests_edited-1

A No Bake Chocolate Cookie that’s excellent for spring and just in time for Easter. You make these little bird nests with a minimum of ingredients that can be decorated with chocolate mini eggs and maybe even a Peep chick. The kids may want to help you out.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (12 oz) bag milk chocolate chips
  • 1 (12 oz) bag butterscotch chips, more chocolate chips, or peanut butter chips
  • 1 (12 oz) bag chow mien noodles
  • Cadbury mini chocolate eggs, but you can use M&Ms or Jelly Beans or whatever you like.
  • Peeps if nest is large enough.

Directions:

  1. In a large microwave safe bowl, melt chocolate chips and butterscotch and/or peanut butter chips together in microwave, stirring every 30 seconds.
  2. Stir in chow mien noodles.
  3. Spray muffin tins lightly with cooking spray. If you are making the larger nests to fit a peep inside, mold into large greased muffin tins.
  4. Drop by spoonfuls into a greased muffin tin and mold into nest shapes.
  5. Let set. You may want to place in the refrigerator to help them set up quicker.
  6. Place eggs and/or peeps on top.

Now that was easy!!! Enjoy!
