Vintage Car Post Card Ephemera

These old post cards would be great in a mini-album or scrapbook!!!

Tim Holtz introduced me to the term “ephemera” which is basically items that last for a short period of time.vintagecarpostcards5

That could be said for post cards and flowers . . . maybe even photographs and paper products — candy wrappers, ticket stubs . . .

Then, we use the fancy name “ephemera” and add “vintage” to it to make people believe we have something valuable here. Which is basically all in the eye of the beholder. And, since it’s my eye that’s beholding . . . and yours, too . . . we’ll be the judge as to whether these Vintage Car Post Cards are worthwhile or not.

I like them! I thought they’d be interesting to put in mini-albums. We can always use more ephemera to put in those handy pockets we make.

Click the image to the right and I have a PDF you can download and print out.

I think I have 8 of them . . . you can print out the ones you like and leave the others.

I’m a bit disappointed with the picture quality, but it does make it look old . . . and these post cards are definitely old. I magine someone saved this “ephemera” not knowing that 80 years later it would still be “here”, but saved in a digital format to be shared and used . . .

Just another example of that “trash to treasure” expression . . .

I hope you found this post amusing and may print out some of these post cards to share in your paper craft projects.

Oh Uncle Harold!

Uncle Harold just wants to have fun!

You’ve already met his sister, Aunt Ruth . . . and made that image into a Card In A Box. Now you can do the same with Uncle Harold.Halloween2

Click the link above to meet Aunt Ruth if you haven’t already . . . and learn how to make a Card In A Box.

You can download Uncle Harold by clicking the picture to the right. I have a PDF for you. You may have to print out more than one copy so you’ll have plenty of pieces to cut out and put in your Card In A Box. Also feel free to add other elements.

I do like the vintage feel of this picture . . . and the one of Aunt Ruth, too.

They remind me of Halloween trick-or-treating when I was a kid. It was truly magical . . . running around the neighborhood getting candy from each house . . . and knowing I was safe because Dad was waiting on the sidewalk talking with other fathers while they waited for us to get some candy in out bags.

My neighborhood is the same . . . I do like seeing the kids and saying hello to their parents, too. It is a nice family friendly night.

It’s after all the trick-or-treaters go home . . . and the neighborhood is quiet is when I go for a brief walk . . . I see dropped candy on the sidewalk . . . I can hear my footsteps as they echo up the street . . . It is eerrily calm . . . almost too calm . . . and my imagination goes into high gear . . .

It is just the right setting to get me in the mood to read my favorite Halloween story . . . The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. Every year I read of Sleepy Hollow and the schoolmaster Ichabod Crane and his misadventure that Halloween Night.

Are You Thinking Fall?

Why on earth would I be thinking of fall when it is August and HOT HOT HOT!

Yes, September is on the horizon.

It is so very comfortable in the house. Perfect for reading a good book with a friend.Donald-Daisy-Duck-Reading

It’s just when I go outside that I realize how hot it truly is. And it seems we’re quite a ways away from fall . . . but I love fall and it is always good to plan ahead.

Some areas have already started a new school year while others have a bit more summer vacation.

Whatever the season, it’s always good to appreciate what you have and doesn’t hurt to look ahead. I have enjoyed this summer. Even with the triple digit temperatures. Some crafters are still working on Christmas items, others have jumped into Halloween . . . and I’m caught a bit in between. I do want to look at nature and see what kind of cute boxes I can make to give to family and friends who stop by to visit.

I was looking at some fall clip art and got a little motivated to decorate some fry boxes. Then I realized that I like to make boxes that will be saved and cherished by others . . . Yes, I’m a dreamer.

TheKnollEntryColumnRay Keim of Haunted Dimensions has a PDF Entry Column box you can make and give to friends and family. I think this would be something they would hang on to . . . Why? Just look at the picture . . . does anything stand out?

Did you read the sign?

Everyone loves having a box that tells everyone to keep out.

Click the image and you’ll be taken to the PDF file. Make up quite a few of these. They are compliments of Ray Keim. He did add some moss to his finished column. You can do the same with some leaves or whatever else you think appropriate to add.

I think a few pumpkins would look nice on top or some miniature books, maybe a skeleton or a pirate’s hat . . . it may be nice to make several “tops” and decorate them for different seasons or holidays. Keeping, basically, with the seasonal weather. A bit of snow and snow flakes on top for winter, maybe some flowers for spring, some seashells for summer . . . or whatever strikes your fancy.

What I like about this box is that you can lift up the top, but no one will know the column is hollow, unless you make a half circle thump hole on the top or the side for easy opening of the “box lid” . . . I would not glue it down . . .

You can fill it with goodies . . . and the person you give this to may want to keep some goodies of their own inside or some treasure of their own. I think teens and the tweens in your household would love this Entry Column. It would look lovely on a desk or on a book shelf . . . even hidden away in a drawer . . . but I would like to display it throughout the year just for fun!

Enjoy!

Closure Box Free Printable

I love paper crafts . . . especially boxes I can fill with interesting things.

This closure box seems suitable for many different occasions and different age groups.

You can decorate them however you like . . . using the designer paper of your choice . . . and, of course, filling them with whatever seems appropriate.

These coins remind me of Pirate Treasure . . .

This box can be used for anything . . . even a gift card . . . or an invitation to a family movie night . . . or a family board and card game night . . . or . . . making s’mores over a backyard fire pit and tell ghost stories . . .

These summer nights are always good to spend with family . . . You can also do some star gazing.

Click the picture on the right and you’ll be taken to a PDF template that you can download and then print out.

This is one of those boxes you can decorate for different holidays and special events throughout the year. They are easy to assemble.
