Bunny Bums

Have you noticed that the back end of a bunny is used in many food and craft creations?

I think the concept is cute.bunnybum

The bunny is running away . . . and when you look at the elements involved . . . quite easy to make.

Yes, it’s easier with a template or with various punches, but you can make circles and ovals and an interesting scalloped or starburst type of edge on a circle for the tail. Or use a cotton ball.

From the image on the right, you can plainly see what it takes to have a bunny going into a rabbit hole. Just circles and ovals. These you can cut out with a punch or with scissors.

Knowing the basic concept allows you to make bunnies in different sizes using different mediums. Now see how easy it would be to make pancakes bunny bums for Easter breakfast. Or have this concept on cupcakes . . . and, of course, paper crafts . . . a box or card . . .

It’s all getting down to the basic parts that make up the image you want to create . . . and you don’t have to be an artist to do it. Many people use whatever they have around the house . . . a can for the circle . . . or a piece of jewelry . . . you have circles and ovals . . . you don’t have to go out and buy anything . . . and you may be able to find things online.

There is a great sense of accomplishment when you discover you can make it yourself.

Yes, there will be a bit of trial and error, but you’ll be able to get these designs done . . . and for the little toes, just use a marker or colored pencil . . . or frosting . . . depending upon what you’re making. Cutting those out would be a bit too much.

I know we do think of what would be easier . . . and yes, punches are great as are templates . . . but when you get into crafts as a business or it’s something you do all the time, you’ll find ways of making what you need.

Paper Craft Coffee Mug Tutorial

I can’t tell you how many coffee mug or tea cup tutorials I’ve watched . . .

And each one has something I’m not thrilled about . . . until now!!!

Yes, I have finally found a great paper craft coffee mug for just about any occasion that makes excellent hostess gifts for weddings, showers and just about any celebration . . .

I definitely like to have something to put in a bag of goodies.

This is truly excellent for any celebration . . . we always have a mug of something to drink from time to time . . . coffee, tea, hot chocolate . . .

Here’s the video . . . then I’ll ramble on a bit more . . .

These are easy to make without any die cuts or punches or whatever . . . Yes, you can use stamps to make the gift tag and the colored pens . . . or just do it your way . . . that’s why you made the mug in the first place.

I was thinking about curling the handle a bit before attaching, but this did come together quite nicely without that added step. Now, did you get the dimensions for the mug and handle? You’ll need two pieces of two-sided decorator paper of your choice the larger (mug) piece is 8 and 1/4 inches by 4 and 1/2 inches. And the handle piece is 1 inch by 4 and 1/2 inches.

There’s scoring . . . starting with what you want for the bottom of your mug . . . just so the pattern of your paper is going the right way . . . score at 1 and 1/2 inches. Then turn your paper so the pattern is upright (check the video) and score at every inch: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

Just follow along with the video . . . pause if necessary and you’ll be able to crank out these mugs while watching television or listening to music. If, you’re lucky, you may get the family involved . . .

You can embellish them or keep them relatively plain . . . it all depends upon the occasion and what you have available to make these mugs stand out . . . I’m always pleased to see these placed on a shelf . . . because they’re too pretty to throw out.

I do hope you found this video informative and helpful . . . you can place all kinds of goodies in them with or without a separate bag . . .

These would be great for Easter . . . maybe putting something inside that wouldn’t be a sugary treat . . . there are plenty of little things that would be appropriate . . .

This should give you a few ideas . . . and to think ahead for the next holiday . . . or celebration you have on your personal calendar.

Have fun and happy crafting!

Peeps On Skateboards

How fun is this!!!

Yes, those Peeps do get around on all kinds of fun and easy things you can put together.peeps-on-skateboards1

These are easy to assemble. And, yes, you assemble them. It’s something the kid can do.

I’m always amazed by what people think of making out of the cookies and candies and sprinkles they have on hand. It does seem like one idea leads to another and then another . . . could these skateboards be surf boards?

The bunny peeps are great, but you can use the chicks, too. They all want to have some “sidewalk surfing” fun this Easter.

Do you feel motivated to go out skateboarding? If peeps can do it, so can you . . . how about a hover board? Would that work for you?

With those orange starburst candies you can fashion the carrots and use the daisy sprinkles for the top . . . and on the wheels and on the peeps . . . you can use either Vienna cookies or Nutter Butter cookies . . . with some tubed frosting, you’ll be sticking the whole thing together in no time at all.

It would be fun to see what the kids put together with your ingredients. They can also make paper backgrounds to make some interesting scenes to go along with their cookie, candy and peep creations.

It’s all about having fun and making this Easter special.

Chick Hard Boiled Egg

It’s always fun to have variations of chicks you can make with your hard boiled Easter eggs.

I do love making something common extraordinary for holidays.ChickHardBoiledEggs

It is fun to experiment and see what you can do.

This chick has a cut carrot for the comb on top and also a piece of carrot for the beak. You could make feet for it using a slice of carrot. For eggs you could use a speck of black pepper or a piece of cut black olive. I’m sure you can think of other things that would work equally well.

As you can see from the picture, you just cut into your hard boiled egg to make room for the comb and beak. You may want to slice off a piece of the bottom so it will stand up . . . or put it in a bed of spinach.

It’s all about having fun and seeing what you can create for your family this Easter.

I do hope this was inspirational for you . . . giving you an idea of what you can do special for your family and friends.

Berry Layered Cake

Berries And Angel Food Cake

I like to make this will strawberries, vanilla pudding poured over layers of angel food cake.berry-layered-cake

It’s no bake . . . when you buy an angel food cake from the bakery section of your local market.

Of course you can use pound cake and the berries of your choice or a combination of berries. I suppose you could also make this with pan cakes . . . or waffles . . . make it with or without the vanilla pudding . . . just the berries with the “cake” of your choice.

So, this isn’t really a recipe . . . a procedure of layering your cake with the berries and if you use pudding, you layer that right along putting the berries on top.

Just follow the picture and you’ll have a delicious dessert for your family . . . and if you decide to use pan cakes or waffles, this would be a flavorful breakfast or brunch . . . with or without the vanilla pudding . . . I know I’m pushing the pudding . . . it’s supposed to be all about the berries.

It’s interesting how a picture can give you several ideas of how to make a special treat for your family. Since it’s about the berries or the fruit . . . banana pudding would be delicious . . . and why not chocolate pudding?

I don’t know, I didn’t really think of it . . . perhaps this could work, too. You just need to gather up your ingredients and go for it. Maybe try some test runs with your combinations . . . maybe cut the angel food cake in small pieces and make different puddings and wash and cut up different berries and fruit and make a whole platter of berry delicious treats.

This would be a wonderful way of giving everyone a little bit of everything before making a commitment of a whole cake using one combination of ingredients. You may find your taste test platter becomes your new Berry Easter Cake tradition.

Have fun and be creative.

Too Cute To Eat

I Always Find It Amazing How A Simple Recipe Can Be Made Into Something Special

Deviled eggs are always a family favorite . . . but make them into little chicks and you have a winner for this Easter!!ChickDevilEggs

Oh yes, these are easy enough to make . . . and you can use your own recipe for deviled eggs or the one I have for you here. I do wonder how different this recipe is from your own family recipe. That would be an interesting project.

Well, let’s get on with the recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 6 hard boiled eggs
  • 1/4 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Sweet Pickle Relish
  • 2 teaspoons Mustard
  • Salt and Pepper for taste
  • 1 Carrot
  • 1 Sweet Pickle

Directions:

  1. Boil and Peel the eggs.
  2. Slice a small piece off the bottom of the egg to flatten it so it will stand.
  3. Cut a zig zag pattern around the middle of the egg so it resembles an egg that has cracked open.
  4. Remove the yokes and put in a bowl.
  5. Cut the carrot into 6 small triangles to use for the beak.
  6. Cut off strips of the pickle and make into squares for the eyes.
  7. Mash the yolks with a fork and stir in the mayonnaise, pickle relish and mustard.
  8. Add the salt and pepper for taste.
  9. Mix until the consistency is smooth and creamy.
  10. Transfer the mixture into a zip lock bag, snip off a corner — this is your piping bag.
  11. Squeeze in the mixture into the cooked egg whites. Fill it up to overflowing.
  12. Place the beaks and eyes in place.
  13. Top them off with the top half of the egg white.
  14. There you have a cute little chick trying to pop out.

This is a fun recipe. Be sure to add or delete ingredients. Replace with your own recipe. This is just the starting point for making these adorable chicks. Make this recipe your own.

Have fun!
